A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review

Book cover and review graphic for Legacy of Lies by Robert Bailey, a legal thriller about justice and hidden truths.
Bo's search for the General's justice.

A short summary:

Bo Tatum’s investigation begins as a search for truth but quickly becomes a reckoning with power, reputation, and justice itself. Tasked with uncovering the reality behind a revered general’s legacy, Bo finds himself navigating a maze of legal maneuvering, personal loyalties, and carefully constructed lies.

As the case deepens, so do the stakes. Long-buried secrets surface, alliances fracture, and the line between justice and expediency grows increasingly blurred. Legacy of Lies asks whether one defining failure can eclipse a lifetime of service, and who ultimately gets to decide the truth when institutions have everything to lose.

My favorite quote from the book:

"Does one act of cowardice define a whole life?"
- Robert Bailey, Legacy of Lies

Quote from Legacy of Lies by Robert Bailey asking whether one act of cowardice defines a lifetime.

Questions to ponder while reading:

Do you have a good relationship with your ex?

How many secrets does your town have?

My review:

This is a fast, entertaining legal thriller that knows exactly what it’s doing.

Robert Bailey delivers courtroom tension, sharp pacing, and plenty of twists to keep the pages turning. The story moves confidently from investigation to confrontation, stacking surprises that make it hard to stop reading.

While some of the legal and procedural turns stretch plausibility, the novel makes up for it with momentum and character-driven intrigue. Legacy of Lies doesn’t pretend to be a documentary—it aims to entertain, and it succeeds.

A great pick for readers who enjoy smart legal drama, high-stakes moral questions, and a plot that refuses to stay neatly contained.
