A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review.
A short summary:
The Prague Sonata by Bradford Morrow is a literary mystery that weaves music, history, and personal legacy into a gripping search narrative. After World War II, a man becomes consumed with uncovering the fate of a mysterious musical score believed lost during the Nazi occupation of Prague.
As the search deepens, the novel moves across time and borders, exploring the devastation of war on art and culture, and the fragile thread connecting creativity to survival. The missing composition becomes more than a piece of music; it is a symbol of memory, resistance, and the human urge to preserve beauty even amid destruction.

My review:
The Prague Sonata is a compelling and immersive take on a World War II–era novel, blending historical context with an artist’s sensibility. I found it completely engrossing and finished it in a single day.
What stayed with me most was the persistence demanded by the search. The novel celebrates devotion to art, but it also quietly questions it. There were many moments where I was certain I would have given up, exhausted by dead ends, loss, and time, and that contrast made the characters’ perseverance even more striking.
This is a thoughtful, elegant novel for readers drawn to history, music, and the endurance of creative spirit.
