A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review

Ambigram-ing for the Illuminati is a cardinal sin

A short summary:

Angels & Demons launches Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon into a high-stakes race against time when an ancient secret society appears to threaten the Vatican itself. A trail of ambigrams, hidden symbols, and historic landmarks leads through Rome as science, religion, and conspiracy collide.

Brown builds the story around escalating set pieces and rapid discoveries, turning art history and religious lore into clues. The result is a global thriller that treats symbolism as both weapon and language—where deciphering meaning can mean the difference between catastrophe and survival.

My favorite quote from the book:

"Our mind sometimes sees what our hearts wish were true."

Questions to ponder while reading:

How has antimatter not blown everything up yet?

Have you ever wanted to see the Vatican Library?

My review:

I want to go to Rome.
I want to wander the Vatican.
And I absolutely love conspiracy theories wrapped in Catholic lore.

Angels & Demons is great fun in a book, fast, outrageous, and gleefully over-the-top. Brown understands pacing better than restraint, and that’s exactly the appeal. The plot barrels forward, fueled by secret passages, ancient grudges, and intellectual one-upmanship.

This isn’t subtle fiction, but it isn’t trying to be. It’s a globe-trotting puzzle box that rewards curiosity and enthusiasm more than skepticism. If you enjoy history reframed as mystery and symbols treated like narrative accelerants, this book delivers exactly what it promises.

Pure entertainment, best read when you’re ready to suspend disbelief and enjoy the ride.
