A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review
The queen of Andor returns, a Seachan stalemate, and a promise from a prophet.
A short summary:
The Path of Daggers continues Robert Jordan’s sweeping Wheel of Time saga as countless storylines twist forward toward inevitable collision. Elayne, Nynaeve, and the Aes Sedai work to claim Andor’s Lion Throne, while alliances crack beneath political strain. Rand continues his war against the Seanchan, wielding the One Power at catastrophic cost as the world’s magic itself begins to rebel. Characters are scattered across nations, oaths are tested, armies clash, and prophecies sharpen. Book eight deepens the scale and consequence of the world, shifting the series from adventure to the tremor of coming cataclysm.
My favorite quote from the book:
"Sometimes six and six make a dozen, and sometimes they make a mess."
- Robert Jordan, The Path of Daggers
Questions to ponder while reading:
Are you ruled by ego?
Have you ever lost something important?
My review:
Book eight is a turning point, huge, layered, and intricate to the point of requiring deep attention. The cast swells, the nations multiply, and secrets intertwine, making the plot incredibly immersive but occasionally overwhelming. Jordan’s worldbuilding remains brilliant: lush detail, rich politics, and prophetic tension build toward something massive. However, the sheer number of perspectives and plot threads demands commitment, and sometimes patience. Still, readers who love world-spanning epics will find this installment gripping and rewarding, especially as long-standing arcs move into place for the final conflict.
