A short summary:
In The Eye of the World, Robert Jordan begins the sweeping Wheel of Time saga by pulling three ordinary young people—Rand al’Thor, Mat Cauthon, and Perrin Aybara—out of their quiet Two Rivers lives and into a world touched by magic, prophecy, and shadow. When their village is attacked by creatures of the Dark One, a mysterious Aes Sedai named Moiraine and her Warder, Lan, insist the boys are being hunted for a reason. Joined by Egwene, Nynaeve, and Thom Merrilin, they embark on a dangerous journey across a richly detailed world where the Pattern is constantly shifting and the Forsaken are stirring. It is the first turning of a vast tale about destiny, choice, the nature of evil, and the heroes the Wheel weaves when the world needs them most.

My review:
Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World remains one of the most iconic beginnings in modern fantasy literature. As the foundation of a fourteen-book epic (fifteen, including the prequel), it introduces a fully realized world shaped by ancient prophecies, cyclical time, and meticulously crafted cultures. Jordan’s strength lies in his ability to build character slowly and thoroughly—allowing Rand, Egwene, Mat, Perrin, Moiraine, and Lan to grow organically from villagers and wanderers into figures of mythic importance. The pacing is deliberate but never dull, with each chapter adding layers of mystery, danger, and wonder. The Wheel of Time is famously expansive, but this opening volume stands firmly on its own as an engaging and immersive adventure. If you enjoy deep world-building and character-driven fantasy, this is an excellent place to start.
