A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review

A how-to guide to being true to God and His creation in you.

A short summary:

Go Bravely by Emily Wilson Hussem is a thoughtful guide to living faithfully as a woman—one who honors God not by shrinking herself, but by embracing the fullness of who she was created to be.

Blending spiritual reflection with practical insight, Hussem invites readers to examine forgiveness, courage, vocation, and identity through the lens of Christ-centered womanhood. Rather than prescribing a single model of femininity, the book affirms that holiness takes shape through authenticity, discernment, and courageous faithfulness in everyday life.

My favorite quote from the book:

"No matter how badly we have been hurt, it is crucial to remember that forgiveness is not a feeling."

Questions to ponder while reading:

Do you think you are brave?

Do you trust in God?

My review:

Go Bravely is one of those rare spiritual books that feels both grounding and energizing. Hussem writes with clarity and compassion, offering reflections on womanhood in Christ that are neither sentimental nor superficial. Her observations are rooted in lived experience and deep faith, making the book resonate across seasons of doubt, growth, and renewal.

The reflections on forgiveness, identity, and courage linger long after the page is turned. These are not abstract ideals, but practical calls to live attentively and truthfully before God. It is especially strong in its encouragement to move forward bravely, even when healing is incomplete or clarity has not yet arrived.

This is a book that is difficult to put down. It reads quickly, not because it is light, but because it speaks directly to the heart. For women seeking faith that feels honest, embodied, and sustaining, Go Bravely offers both encouragement and challenge in equal measure.

*I picked this book up after seeing Emily Wilson Hussem speak at the Hallow Summit (read about that trip here). She is a very engaging speaker.  If you get the opportunity to attend one of her events, I recommend you take it.
