A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review

Moran's multiverse murder mystery.

A short summary:

Infinite is a high-concept thriller that drops detective Jonathan Stride’s colleague, Dylan Moran, into a multiverse-spanning murder mystery. When evidence suggests that the same killer may be operating across parallel realities, the investigation pushes beyond conventional logic into a labyrinth of alternate selves and branching possibilities.

As Moran races to stop the violence, the novel interrogates identity, choice, and the unsettling idea that every version of ourselves is capable of radically different outcomes. The result is a fast-moving blend of crime fiction and speculative theory, where the mind itself becomes both the prison and the key.

My favorite quote from the book:

"The only prison we can never escape is our brain, and yet our brain is what sets us free."
-Brian Freeman, Infinite

Quote reading “The only prison we can never escape is our brain, and yet our brain is what sets us free,” by Brian Freeman, displayed over abstract red light patterns.

Questions to ponder while reading:

Do you keep searching?

Do you know what you are capable of?

My review:

This is a fast-paced, totally engrossing read that wastes no time pulling you in. Freeman keeps the tension high while juggling big ideas, making the multiverse concept feel urgent rather than abstract.

The plot is thrilling and propulsive, with twists that land cleanly and keep the pages turning. What lingered with me most, though, was the psychological unease: the idea that somewhere out there, another version of yourself exists, one you might not want to meet. That existential edge gives the novel an extra chill beneath the action.

Infinite is smart, entertaining, and satisfyingly unsettling, perfect for readers who like their thrillers sharp, cerebral, and relentless.
