A Short Summary:
In Blood World: The Broken Seal, forensic hematologist Zane Lazaar is called to investigate an impossible crime: an airliner filled with hundreds of dead passengers, their bodies completely drained of blood without any obvious explanation. What begins as an extraordinary mass-casualty investigation quickly pulls Zane into a hidden world of vampires, strange bloodlines, ancient secrets, and an underground conspiracy that has operated for generations.
At the center of the mystery is an ancient seal buried beneath London and a powerful man named Marlowe, who has spent decades trying to create the blood needed to open it. Unfortunately for Zane, the blood Marlowe has been trying to reproduce may already be running through his veins. With mysterious guardian Aurelia at his side, Zane must discover what he is and learn how to control the strange power within him before Marlowe succeeds in releasing something that was sealed away for very good reason.

Blood World: The Broken Seal is a fast-paced supernatural thriller that mixes vampires, ancient demons, secret organizations, and forensic investigation with just enough noir atmosphere to give the story a wonderfully dark edge. Noctis Codex wastes very little time getting started: a mysterious aircraft filled with bloodless bodies quickly becomes the doorway into a much larger conspiracy, and the plot keeps moving from there.
I particularly enjoyed Zane Lazaar as the unlikely center of the story. He approaches increasingly impossible events with the instincts of a scientist, continually attempting to analyze what he sees even after vampires and ancient supernatural forces have made conventional explanations rather useless. That combination gives the novel an entertaining investigative quality; the reader discovers the supernatural world alongside someone who would much rather have evidence, measurements, and reasonable explanations.
There is also considerably more mythology here than a simple vampire hunt. Zane gradually discovers that his unusual relationship with blood is connected to an ancient Seal, while Marlowe has spent generations attempting to manufacture a substitute for something that cannot really be copied. The result feels part urban fantasy, part conspiracy thriller, with ancient evil hiding beneath modern London and supernatural creatures working inside surprisingly organized systems.
Mostly, though, I simply found The Broken Seal entertaining. There are battles, betrayals, monsters, secret histories, mysterious guardians, and plenty of blood, but the novel rarely lets its mythology slow the story down for long. Readers who enjoy their vampires mixed with action, mystery, and a darker supernatural mythology should find plenty here to keep the pages turning.
