Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall – A Story of Love, Loss, and Lies

Book cover of Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall on a deep blue background with elegant white borders. The cover shows a countryside landscape with a red-brick house surrounded by golden fields and trees beneath a soft sky. The title and author’s name appear in bold yellow text.

An unfinished love story turns tragic.

A short summary:

In Broken Country, Clare Leslie Hall intertwines love, loss, and mystery into a story about the fragility of relationships and the danger of unspoken truths. When a small-town murder unravels a long-suppressed love triangle, the past and present collide in unexpected ways. The story explores how passion and pain are often two sides of the same coin, and how, in the end, the measure of a life may be found not in its length, but in its intensity.

My favorite quote from the book:

"Lives should be measured in intensity."

Questions to ponder while reading:

Do you regret the one who got away?

Is infidelity ever acceptable?

My review:

Broken Country is part mystery, part heartbreak, and completely captivating. Clare Leslie Hall builds her story around characters whose flaws make them painfully real, people bound together by love, betrayal, and the weight of the choices they’ve made. The murder mystery gives the book its pulse, but it’s the emotional tension that gives it its soul.

The narrative balances the thrill of discovery with the ache of regret. Each revelation deepens the reader’s understanding of just how intertwined love and tragedy can be. By the final page, you’re left reflecting on how easily passion turns to loss, and how the truth, once uncovered, can never be forgotten. It’s a novel that burns bright and lingers long after you’ve closed it.
