A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review
Finding Ava.
A short summary:
Twist of Faith follows a desperate and emotionally charged search for Ava, a child whose disappearance pulls the story into moral gray areas, fractured systems, and the lengths people go to when time and hope are running out. As the narrative unfolds, certainty erodes, motives shift, and what initially appears straightforward becomes anything but. Green builds a tense, fast-moving story that asks uncomfortable questions about trust, responsibility, and how far one should go when the institutions meant to help feel painfully absent or slow.
My favorite quote from the book:
"When things get too familiar, it's time to move on."
-Ellen J. Green, Twist of Faith
Questions to ponder while reading:
Do you know who you are?
Does your family have secrets?
My review:
This book kept me on edge from start to finish. The pacing is tight, the stakes feel real, and just when I thought I understood where the story was going, it twisted in an unexpected direction. I genuinely didn’t see several turns coming. While I was fully invested emotionally, I also found myself questioning choices along the way, especially the absence of social services as a viable option, adding an extra layer of tension and realism. Twist of Faith is the kind of thriller that lingers after the last page, not just because of what happens, but because of what it makes you think about.
