A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review

Book cover and review graphic for The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, a conspiracy thriller involving the Holy Grail and secret histories.
A murder leaves clues to the location of the Holy Grail.

A short summary:

A murder inside the Louvre sets off a frantic investigation that pulls symbologist Robert Langdon into a labyrinth of symbols, secret societies, and hidden histories. The victim leaves cryptic clues pointing to one of Western civilization’s most enduring legends: the Holy Grail.

As Langdon teams up with French cryptographer Sophie Neveu, the search unfolds across Paris and beyond, weaving together art history, religious symbolism, and long-buried conspiracies. Each discovery raises the stakes, forcing the characters to question not only what has been hidden but also who benefits from history being told a certain way.

My favorite quote from the book:

"History is always written by the winners."
- Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code

Quote from The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown reading “History is always written by the winners,” set beside the Louvre Pyramid in Paris.

Questions to ponder while:

Are conspiracies really that prevalent?

Should worship be painful?

My review:

This book knows exactly what it is, and fully commits.

The Da Vinci Code is tailor-made for readers who love mysteries layered with alternative histories and sprawling conspiracy theories. Dan Brown blends real-world art and architecture with speculative leaps that are unapologetically bold and often delightfully over-the-top.

The pacing is relentless, the chapters short and propulsive, and the revelations designed to keep you saying, “Okay, one more chapter.” Is it subtle? No. Is it historically airtight? Also no. But it is enormously entertaining.

Mysteries? Yes.
Alternative histories? Absolutely.
Conspiracy theories taken to their furthest extreme? Especially yes.

Sometimes a book’s greatest success is how much fun it is, and The Da Vinci Code delivers exactly that.
