A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review

Book cover of The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan set against a sweeping fantasy landscape.
The Wheel of Time saga continues - Wolves, hawks, politics, and more of Min's visions dominate this part of the weaving.

A short summary:

The Dragon Reborn continues the great weaving of The Wheel of Time, splintering its threads across visions, prophecies, and power plays. Wolves run through the Pattern alongside hawks in the sky, Min’s visions sharpen the sense of inevitability, and political maneuvering grows increasingly dangerous as the world responds, often badly, to what is coming.

This installment leans into convergence rather than comfort. Separate paths begin to pull toward the same looming center, reinforcing the sense that choice and destiny are no longer abstract ideas but active forces shaping every decision. The Wheel turns, and its designs grow clearer, whether the characters are ready or not.

My favorite quote from the book:

"Most of those we call heroes only did what they had to do."
- Robert Jordan, The Dragon Reborn

Robert Jordan quote about heroes over a green valley landscape with wolves running through tall grass.

Questions to ponder while reading:

Have you ever challenged your fate?

Have you ever been afraid of yourself?

My review of the book:

Book three of the saga is officially done, and the scale is unmistakable now.

The detail in The Dragon Reborn is impressive, even by Jordan’s standards. Threads multiply, intersect, and brush past one another in ways that reward attention and patience. It’s a book about momentum, about realizing that the story no longer asks for permission to move forward.

Not every character lands comfortably, though. Faile, in particular, is… a lot. Whether she grows on you or continues to grate is very much a matter of taste. Still, her presence underscores one of Jordan’s great strengths: people feel real, even when they’re frustrating.

This is a dense, deliberate installment that reinforces confidence in the long road ahead.
