A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review
A short summary:
When Joanna Eberhart moves with her family to the idyllic suburban town of Stepford, she expects a slower pace, friendly neighbors, and a chance to settle into a “perfect” life. What she finds instead is a community of eerily compliant women, obsessed with housework, submissive to their husbands, and disturbingly alike.
As Joanna befriends other newcomers and begins to ask questions, the truth behind Stepford’s perfection slowly comes into focus. What appears to be domestic bliss masks a calculated effort to erase individuality in favor of control, convenience, and male fantasy.

My review:
This book scared me.
Not in a jump-scare way, but in the quiet, creeping realization that the horror is social, not supernatural. Ira Levin’s genius lies in how mundane the terror feels. The suburbs aren’t haunted; they’re engineered.
The Stepford Wives is a razor-sharp satire of gender roles, domestic expectations, and the cultural fear of independent women. The story wastes no words and pulls no punches, delivering its message with chilling efficiency.
I finished it unsettled.
I briefly considered fleeing to the city.
I also, apparently, decided to dust—just in case.
Short, sinister, and disturbingly effective, this is a classic that still bites hard.
