A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review
A short summary:
Milk and Honey is a poetry collection that traces the arc of love, loss, healing, and self-discovery. Organized in sections that move from pain to recovery, Rupi Kaur’s poems address trauma, relationships, femininity, and survival in spare, accessible language.
Paired with minimalist illustrations, the collection emphasizes emotional immediacy over ornament. These poems are designed to be felt quickly and remembered easily, offering readers moments of recognition rather than literary distance.

My Review:
Milk and Honey resonated with me on multiple levels. I loved the thoughts, direct, unguarded, and emotionally honest. Kaur writes with clarity that doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is: feeling put into words.
I also loved the aesthetics. The white space, the illustrations, and the book's visual rhythm matter here. This is poetry meant to be held, revisited, underlined, and shared.
Most of all, I loved the relatability. These poems speak to experiences many readers recognize but struggle to articulate: hurt, resilience, self-worth, and the slow work of healing. Milk and Honey doesn’t demand interpretation; it offers companionship.
This collection succeeds because it meets readers where they are. It may be simple in form, but its emotional accessibility is its strength.
