Learning to live after a near-fatal event.

A short summary:

This memoir chronicles Gabrielle Giffords’ life after surviving a near-fatal act of political violence. Through the long, uneven road of recovery, the book explores trauma, resilience, love, and the quiet courage required to rebuild a life that will never look quite the same. It is as much a story of healing as it is of perseverance,  learning how to live again when the future you imagined has been irrevocably altered.

My favorite quote from the book:

"My spirit is as strong as ever."
- Gabrielle Giffords, Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope

Questions to ponder while reading:

Why does crap like this happen?

Could I ever hope to be that tenacious?

My review:

Gabby is a powerful reminder that life is fragile, unpredictable, and profoundly precious. Giffords’ story — supported by the steady presence of her husband, Mark Kelly - highlights how recovery is rarely heroic in the Hollywood sense. Instead, it is repetitive, exhausting, humbling, and deeply human.

The memoir gently insists on perspective: hug your loved ones, say what matters, and don’t assume tomorrow is guaranteed. There’s a quiet strength here that lingers long after the last page,  not triumph in spite of vulnerability, but courage that exists alongside it.

Gabby for the win. This is a story of love, grit, and choosing to keep showing up.
