A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review
A short summary:
This biography examines the life of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis through the lens of public visibility and private endurance. From her early years and White House stewardship to the assassination of President Kennedy and the long aftermath, the book traces how Jackie navigated grief, scrutiny, and reinvention while remaining relentlessly composed in the public eye.
It is a study of how a woman learned to survive history as it unfolded around her, often cruelly, always publicly.

My review:
Jackie is the undisputed queen of Keep Calm and Carry On. Again and again, she absorbs heartbreak while maintaining dignity, silence, and control, not because the pain is small, but because the stakes are enormous.
This book is dense with detail and deeply researched, offering lots of information and a sobering reminder of how little space Jackie was allowed to grieve as a human being. There is lots of heartbreak here, not just in loss, but in restraint, in expectations, and in the constant demand that she perform grace under pressure.
What emerges is not a myth, but a woman who understood that composure could be both armor and a survival strategy.
