A Rite of Fancy Book Recommendation and Review

As Perrin’s hunt for Faile drives him into brutal clashes with the Shaido, the Seanchan shock the world by entertaining alliances, and Egwene tightens her grip on power as the rebel Amyrlin edges closer to claiming Tar Valon.

A short summary of the book Crossroads of Twilight:

The world stands on the brink of change.
Perrin Aybara will stop at nothing to free Faile, even if it means clashing with the ruthless Shaido. The Seanchan, long-feared conquerors, hint at alliances that could shatter every balance of power. And in the shadows of Tar Valon, Egwene al’Vere rises, her rebellion poised to challenge the White Tower itself.

Loyalties will be tested. Powers will collide. The Wheel turns—and no one can escape the crossroads.

My favorite Robert Jordan quote from the book:

"The surface of water may be still, but the fish never stop swimming."

Questions to ponder while reading:

Does age confer wisdom?

Is imperialism the most peaceful government?

My review:

Book ten of fourteen, and the Wheel keeps turning, sometimes more slowly than I’d like. What continues to amaze me is how many of these supposedly ancient, wise, or powerful figures can behave with such petty stubbornness and short-sighted politics. It makes for a fascinating, if frustrating, study in how power corrupts and pride blinds. I had really hoped that by this point, the rebel Aes Sedai would have gained the upper hand, but Jordan stretches out the conflict, reminding us how tangled and messy actual change can be. While the pace lags at times, the undercurrents of tension, shifting alliances, and looming battles keep me hooked.

If you’ve made it this far into the series, this book may test your patience, but it’s still worth the journey—the groundwork being laid here pays off in the explosive volumes to come. Sometimes the slow burn is the hardest part, but it’s also what makes the eventual payoff so satisfying.
